How to check if your PC has SATA or NVMe SSD on Windows 11 or 10?

If you have bought a new computer or laptop in the past two years, chances are it has been equipped with an SSD storage drive. While SATA SSDs have been the norm for mid to high-end computers, newer models now come with faster NVMe SSDs. If you’re wondering how to determine whether your PC or laptop has a SATA or NVMe SSD, this article will guide you through the process.

To note, NVMe SSDs are faster than SATA SSDs. As an illustration, the well-known Samsung 970 Evo Plus SSD (NVMe) provides read/write speeds up to 3500/3300 MB/s, while the Samsung 860 Evo (SATA) provides read/write speeds up to 550/520 MB/s.

There is a significant speed difference between SATA and NVMe SSDs, and it is easy to identify whether a laptop or PC has a SATA or NVMe SSD without using third-party software.
