Puran Defrag: Automatically Defrag your Hard Disk Drives

Puran Defrag is one of the best defragmentation tools that you can get for your PC hard drive. As time passes, data and programs are stored, deleted, and updated; all Windows PC’s hard drives become fragmented, resulting in slowing down your computer’s performance. The only solution is to defrag your hard drive. Windows do include a defrag program in its optimization tools; however, it doesn’t do the best work.

Windows 11/10 also comes with a built-in disk defragmenter utility that is scheduled to work in the background. The Disk Defragmenter runs as a low-priority task in the background without affecting the performance of the computer. The built-in defragmenting tool runs only when the machine is idle. It uses the Task Scheduler to keep the hard disk defragmented automatically. Although Windows offers a built-in defragmentation tool, it does not defragment the following files:-

  1. Bootsect dos
  2. Safeboot fs
  3. Safeboot CSV
  4. Safeboot RSV
  5. Hiberfil sys
  6. Memory dump
  7. Windows page file

Even the built-in defragmenter does not defragment files in the Recycle Bin, and those files are in use.

Puran Defrag does an outstanding work of defragging hard drives and keeps your system functioning well when the hard drive is completely fragmented, resulting in the system running super slow. Puran Defrag is handy for defragging hard drives, but you should never use this tool for defragging Solid State Drives (SSDs); rather, we should prefer a free program on SSDs, IObit Smart Defrag.

Once you download and install the Puran Defrag application on your PC, you will see a Low Priority option in the Main tab. If you check this option, you can work on the file that is simultaneously being defragmented. Even you can choose Shutdown after defrag option that allows you to leave the PC running till the defragmenting is completed. After that, it will shut down automatically.

Analyze means which files might be fragmented before proceeding to defrag.

Boot Time Defrag: if you hit this button, the system will reboot, and during the boot process, it will do a defrag. While Windows is running, some files like MFT, Registry, Pagefile, etc., cannot be defragmented or are not safe to defrag. Boot time defrag is handy when defragmenting these files at the boot time of Windows and getting optimal results.

Now there are other tabs for additional operations.

In the Automatic Defragmentation tab, by clicking on Add button. You can select files or a complete drive you want to defrag, and then you can choose what type of defragmentation process you want.

Now, you are ready to defrag. There are two ways to defragment your HDDs using the Puran Defrag utility. One of them is simple Automatic Defragmentation, and the other is Automatic Boot Time Defragmentation. The Automatic Defragmentation gives you different options like defrag at every startup, defrag after every min/hrs, at a specific time on any day of the week or any day of the month. Once you hit the defrag button on the program’s main tab, it goes under the defragmentation process.
