Puran Defrag: Automatically Defrag your Hard Disk Drives

One of the best defragmentation tools for PCs is Puran Defrag. The only solution is to defrag your hard drive. Over time, as data and programs are stored, deleted, and updated, your PC’s hard drive becomes fragmented, slowing down your computer’s performance. Windows does include a defrag program in its optimization tools; however, it doesn’t perform well enough.

Disk Defragmenter is a built-in feature in Windows 11/10 that works in the background. The Disk Defragmenter runs without affecting computer performance because it runs as a low-priority task in the background. Windows’ built-in defragmentation tool runs only when the machine is idle, and it uses Task Scheduler to keep the hard disk defragmented automatically. However, the following files are not defragmented by Windows’ built-in defragmentation tool:-

  1. Bootsect dos
  2. Safeboot fs
  3. Safeboot CSV
  4. Safeboot RSV
  5. Hiberfil sys
  6. Memory dump
  7. Windows page file

Even the built-in defragmenter does not defragment files in the Recycle Bin, and those files are in use.

Despite the fact that Puran Defrag does an outstanding job of defragging hard drives, it keeps your system functioning well even when the hard drive is completely fragmented, resulting in your system running extremely slowly. Though Puran Defrag is a good tool for defragging hard drives, it should never be used to defrag Solid State Drives (SSDs); instead, we should use IObit Smart Defrag, a free program for SSDs.

Puran Defrag will show a Low Priority option in the Main tab once it’s been downloaded and installed on your computer. In the Shutdown after defrag option, you can choose to leave the PC running until the defragmenting has been completed, after which it will automatically shut down. If you choose this option, you can work on the file that is being defragmented at the same time.

Analyze means which files might be fragmented before proceeding to defrag.

Boot Time Defrag: Upon clicking this button, the system will reboot and perform defragmentation during boot. Some files, such as MFT, Registry, Pagefile, etc., cannot be defragmented or are not safe for defragmentation while Windows is running. When defragmenting these files at the boot time of Windows, boot time defrag helps get optimal results.

Now there are other tabs for additional operations.

In the Automatic Defragmentation tab, by clicking on Add button. You can select files or a complete drive you want to defrag, and then you can choose what type of defragmentation process you want.

Now, you are ready to defrag. There are two ways to defragment your HDDs using the Puran Defrag utility. One of them is simple Automatic Defragmentation, and the other is Automatic Boot Time Defragmentation. Automatic Defragmentation gives you different options like defrag at every startup, defrag after every min/hrs, and at a specific time on any day of the week or any day of the month. Once you hit the defrag button on the program’s main tab, it goes under the defragmentation process.
