Every Windows user, at some point, comes across a situation where retrieving the original product key becomes necessary. Whether you are reinstalling Windows, migrating to a new PC, or simply want to back up your license information, having your genuine Windows and Microsoft Office keys handy is important.
GearUpWindows Product Key Finder is a free tool that lets you extract product keys from your PC using safe PowerShell commands. It creates both a .txt and a stylish .html report that includes Windows, Office, and licensing details — all saved directly in the same folder for easy access.

Why Do You Need a Product Key Finder?
Modern PCs often activate Windows digitally, but many systems still store an OEM or retail key. Office installations may also include partial or full keys depending on the licensing channel. Without a tool like this, recovering your genuine key is not always straightforward. The GearUpWindows Product Key Finder solves this problem by reading from multiple locations:
- Registry – decodes the hidden
DigitalProductIdvalue - WMI / CIM – retrieves the OA3 (OEM firmware key) if present
- SoftwareLicensingProduct – lists license entries with partial keys and activation status
- ospp.vbs diagnostics – collects Office license channel, status, and last 5 characters of the installed key

- SoftwareLicensingProduct – Lists license entries with last 5 characters and activation status
- Office Registry – Displays any Office
DigitalProductIdentries - ospp.vbs Diagnostics – Provides channel (Retail, Volume, Subscription), last 5 characters of key, and current license state

FAQs – GearUpWindows Product Key Finder
Does this tool work on Windows 11?
Yes. The Product Key Finder has been tested on Windows 11 (all editions) and works without issues. It can read both the OEM firmware key (OA3) and the registry-decoded key.
Can I use it on Windows 10?
Yes. Windows 10 is fully supported, and you’ll get the same reports as on Windows 11 — including text and HTML outputs.
Will it run on Windows 7 or 8.1?
Partially. The tool can usually decode the registry key on Windows 7 and 8.1, and sometimes detect Office registry entries. However, advanced licensing info and Office diagnostics may not be complete.
Does it support Windows XP or Vista?
No. Windows XP and Vista have a different licensing structure, and PowerShell is not included by default. The tool is not designed for those systems.
Can it find Office 365 / Microsoft 365 product keys?
No full key is stored for subscription-based Office (Microsoft 365). The tool will instead show the license channel, activation state, and the last 5 characters of the installed key using ospp.vbs.
Where are the reports saved?
Both the plain text file (product-keys.txt) and the styled HTML file (product-keys.html) are saved in the same folder where you extracted and ran the tool.
Is it safe to use?
Yes. The tool only reads local registry and license information using built-in Windows commands. It does not connect to the internet or share your data.

Backing up your product keys can save you a lot of time and frustration in the future. The GearUpWindows Product Key Finder is simple, lightweight, and produces professional reports you can store safely. Use it before reinstalling Windows or Office to ensure you always have a record of your genuine license information.
